GRE TEST - New Important Policies

Please be informed that there is two important policy changes in the areas of score reporting and retaking the test.  The new Score Select option will be available, starting in July 2012, for both the GRE General Test and GRE Subject Tests, and can be used by anyone with reportable scores from the last five years. The new Score Select option lets you decide which GRE scores from your reportable history to send to the Universities. Now you can send the scores that you feel reflect your personal best.

First Important Policy

On test day, when viewing your scores at the test center  you can select the:
  • Score Select Most Recent option — Send your scores from your current test administration (FREE).
  • Score Select All option — Send your scores from all test administrations in the last five years (FREE).

You can decide which option to use for each of your four free score reports.

After test day, you can send Additional Score Reports for a fee by selecting from the following:
  • Score Select Most Recent option — Send your scores from your most recent test administration.
  • Score Select All option — Send your scores from all test administrations in the last five years.
  • Score Select Any option — Send your scores from one OR many test administrations in the last five years.

Scores for a test administration must be reported in their entirety. Regardless of whether you choose the Most Recent, All or Any option, you will select specific test administration dates so your scores are all from the same testing session. Institutions will receive score reports that show only the scores that you selected to send to them. There will be no special indication if you have taken additional GRE tests.

Second Important Policy

Starting July 1, 2012, the policy for retaking a test will also be updated. You will be able to take the GRE revised General Test once every 30 days, and up to five times within any continuous rolling 12-month period.

Do write to me for any further clarification.

New UK Visa step to detect bogus Students

Britain on Monday announced a targeted interview system for student visa applicants from India and other non-EU countries to prevent abuse and to ensure that they are refused visas if immigration officials have doubts about their genuineness as students. The new measure follows a pilot scheme carried out in India, Pakistan and 11 other countries, which revealed that some applicants could not answer basic questions in English without an interpreter, but had claimed in forms that they had the ability to study at UK universities. During the pilot, over 2,300 interviews were conducted at application stage between December 2011 and February 2012. It revealed that almost half (45 per cent) of applicants from Myanmar would have been refused visas if they had been interviewed. The figure for India was 29 per cent, and 38 per cent for Bangladesh, the Home Office said. "Under the current system UK Border Agency officers are unable to refuse some applications even if they have serious concerns over the credibility of the student - we are toughening up the system to ensure genuine students benefit from our country's excellent education sector," Immigration Minister Damian Green said.

"Britain is open for business to the brightest and the best migrants but the message is clear - if you lie on your application form or try to hide your true motivation for coming to the UK then you will be found out and refused a visa."

The Home Office said that the new system will run for a year, and concentrate on high-risk students in India and other non-EU countries. Nearly 14,000 student applicants are expected to be interviewed during the year. Green said: "With more interviews and greater powers to refuse bogus students we will weed out abuse and protect the UK from those looking to play the system". The Home Office also announced that news restrictions announced recently applicable for non-EU spouses and other family migration categories came into effect on Monday. From Monday, family visit applicants in India and other non-EU countries refused visas will not have the right to appeal. The change, announced in June, comes into effect on Monday. An appeal will only be allowed on human rights or race discrimination grounds, the Home Office said. The controversial changes to British citizens and residents bringing Indian and other non-EU spouses to the UK include higher income thresholds and longer qualifying periods (from two to five years) for permanent settlement. Under the new rules, a minimum income threshold of £18,600 annual salary is required for "sponsoring the settlement in the UK of a spouse or partner, or fiance(e) or proposed civil partner of non-European Economic Area (EEA) nationality, with a higher threshold for any children also sponsored; 22,400 pounds for one child and an additional 2,400 pounds for each further child," the Home Office said. Adult and elderly dependants of British citizens will be allowed to settle in the UK only where they can demonstrate that, as a result of age, illness or disability, they require a level of long-term personal care that can only be provided by a relative in the UK, and requiring them to apply from overseas rather than switch in the UK from another category, for example as a visitor (Ibnlive.in.com , July10th 2012).
